Tuvaché's fragrance, Laughter, was originally launched by Germaine Monteil in 1940. This fragrance became part of Tuvaché's lineup following significant corporate transitions. After the deaths of Tuvaché's founders, Bernadine and her husband, the company merged into Germaine Monteil, leading to the rebranding of Laughter under the Tuvaché name.
In 1967, the British-American Tobacco Company, LTD acquired several prestigious names, including Yardley of London, Morny, Scandia, Germaine Monteil, and Tuvaché, for $60 million. These brands were integrated into a subsidiary, British American Cosmetics (BAC), which operated in over 140 countries with local manufacturing in 34 countries. This acquisition aimed to enhance the global presence of these renowned beauty brands.
By 1979, Beecham Cosmetics acquired Jovan, Yardley of London, Vitabath, and other lesser-known brands such as Lentheric and Tuvaché. Despite these ownership changes, Tuvaché's fragrances continued to be marketed under the Germaine Monteil umbrella.
By 1984, the perfume Laughter was managed under the Beecham name, though it remained part of the Yardley of London parent company. Eventually, in 1989, Tuvaché was sold to the Jovan division of Coty.
Fragrance Composition:
So what does it smell like? It is classified as a fresh floral fragrance for women. A crisp, fresh green and floral scent. A breathlessly alive, untamed - a beaming blend florals and rare spices with a touch of oakmoss and galbanum helps give it a unique character. Harmony of rose, jasmine, lily of the valley and hyacinth with other floral and green notes. A combination of rare spices.
It starts off with a pronounced fresh green stem top note, reminiscent of chrysanthemum, dry and almost harsh over a cloying effect of spicy and heavy floral elements, followed by a light, green floral heart, layered over a powdery base.
- Top notes: bergamot, hyacinth, mirabelle, peach, lemon, galbanum
- Middle notes: chrysanthemum, jasmine, rose, carnation, ylang ylang, orris, orchid
- Base notes: spices, amber, oakmoss, civet, sandalwood, musk
Soap, Cosmetics, Chemical Specialties - Volume 51, 1975:
"Tuvache's Laughter. The very first top notes of both the perfume and the spray cologne and are very lovely, fresh-green and floral. Unhappily they are very soon lost in a discordant combination of odor characteristics which do not blend well together. Tuvache, like its sister company Germaine Monteil, refrains from marketing new aerosols. Accordingly, the "Laughter" cologne spray uses a pump system which produces a very satisfactory mist."
"Laughter, Tuvache's light, young, refreshing scent; it's $5 for a one-ounce cologne spray."
